Blog Post Number One!

Coral. Peach. Salmon.

Whatever you want to call it, that’s the color I would choose for my wedding, if I re-did it!

I went with light blue (main flower in my bouquet was hydrangea) with different shades of brown.

I’m a planner, and I tend to just get $#!T done. (Anyone else out there an enneagram 8?) So, after Gus proposed to me on Christmas Eve, I had the date, the colors, the dress, the bridesmaids, the reception venue all set by New Years.

I know… I’m crazy. But, I just like to make a decision and stick to it. I prefer not to overthink things. In fact, when I was in school, I would speed through multiple choice tests, because I never second guessed. Read it, you know it or you don’t, mark an answer, next. My classmates would often gasp when I got up to leave the test, as it seemed much to soon to be done. But, I just chalk it up to not second guessing, just going for it. (For what it’s worth, I got pretty decent grades using this method).

My mom is quite the talented seamstress, and I knew I would have her make the bridesmaids’ dresses.

***(Have you been in a wedding before? Bridesmaids wedding party dresses are beyond ridiculously priced. You’ll wear it once. UNLESS: the bride couple does the smart thing and lets the gals wedding party choose a dress they like, within a color scheme. That was not as popular 9 years ago as it is today, and I wish I would have found that on pinterest back in 2011, but I digress. )***

****** Edits made above, as I am still unlearning the construct of Bride and Groom being the norm****

Anyway, I selected a shimmery, … Well, I couldn’t think of a good word for the color so we’ll go with a shimmery, warm Tortilla, if you can imagine that (based on this image) -

The men were in tuxedos (again, I wish a comfortable suit would have been more popular then… it was JUST getting started and I was stuck on tux in my mind because I hadn’t seen anyone else use dress suits…) and my mom made their vests and neckties.

We were lucky to be able to have our August wedding at my Aunt and Uncle’s farm, down on Sauvie Island. At that time, I had no idea that I would one day be living the #farmlife. Funny how life turns out!

It was such a fun event. Of course there were stressful moments leading up to it (hello, groomsmen dropping out 2 days before… ) but what I mostly remember is thinking “this is so much fun!” If I could, I would have a big party with all of my friends and family every year.

In fact, 2022 will mark our 10 year anniversary. I plan on creating the wedding bouquet of my current dreams… Because I loved my bouquet in 2012, but our preferences change, our knowledge of local/sustainable product is ever evolving, and honestly, I didn’t know much about flowers back in 2012. (also, I made a decision on the colors, and I don’t second guess… remember?)

Overall, my wedding was a bargain. And it still cost a whole lot, in my book. But, if I could do it over, it would be even more laid back, and it would involve coral. Peach. Salmon…. whatever you want to call it.

What was your wedding bouquet? (or what will it be?) and would you change it?
